Edgewater Student Only Floridian Selected for Prestigious Biology Competition

Son Le

The Center for Excellence in Education has selected Edgewater High School senior Son Le to participate in the 8th Annual USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) National Finals.

The finalists were selected based on their high scores from the USABO Open Exam and Semifinal Exam. Son Le is the only student selected from Florida and one of only 20 students nationwide from nearly 11,000 students who registered.

The competition will be held next month at Purdue University. It will consist of two weeks of intensive study with leading biologists. At the conclusion of the two weeks, the students take two exams competing for U.S. medals and one of four places on “Team USA 2010.” That team will represent the United States at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in July. The competition will be held in Changwon, Korea.
