Eatonville’s new Mayor Anthony Grant is under investigation for election fraud and bribery, following his victory in the March 7 mayoral election.
Former Eatonville Mayor Bruce Mount filed a lawsuit last week charging election fraud and bribery by Grant. Reportedly, the lawsuit claims that Grant offered “bribes” and lower rents in exchange for votes.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the allegations.
Based on election results, Grant received 65 votes while Mount got 80 votes on polling day. However, Grant got 196 absentee ballot votes to Mount’s 69, thus securing victory.
Grant has reportedly called the allegations in the lawsuit baseless and without merit.
A former mayor of Eatonville, Grant served in that capacity for 15 years up until 2009.
