The Town of Eatonville is continuing celebratory activities Friday and through the week-end to mark the 124th anniversary of its founding.
Established on August 15, 1887, Eatonville is recognized as the oldest incorporated all-black town in the United States.
On Thursday, Eatonville Mayor Bruce Mount kicked off Founder’s day celebrations at the Town Council chambers where he honored veterans and enlisted military. Mayor Mount told the vets he views them as ambassadors of Eatonville.
Among the several new initiatives, Mount said, there are plans in the works to have a restaurant named after the Town.
Situated six miles north of Orlando and two and a-half miles north of Winter Park, Eatonville is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee metro area.
