Dyer to Engage, Assist Homeless Downtown Orlando

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will hit the streets of Downtown Thursday to work side-by-side with an outreach coordinator from the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness to engage homeless individuals in an effort to refer them to local services to acquire identification, receive medical care and obtain transitional housing.

Dyer will begin this work-along at City Hall Plaza and walk up and down the major thoroughfares of Orange Avenue and Central Boulevard and if time permits, around Lake Eola.

The City of Orlando aims to get homeless persons linked up with services with the view to empowering them to enjoy a better quality of life.  Ultimately, it’s outreach efforts seek to assist individuals in overcoming barriers and to transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

The outreach coordinator of the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness has assisted, to date, some 400 homeless individuals and placed 25 into housing.
