Orlando Celebrates July 4th

Thousands flocked downtown to observe the lighting up Orlando’s iconic Lake Eola fountain, for the first time since its restoration and annual fireworks on Monday night.

For more than five minutes, the historic fountain, damaged by lightening during a thunderstorm in August 2009, which was recently restored with more than 200 LED lights and other renovations including 75 new green acrylic panels, delighted the crowds, some of whom spent much of the day at Lake Eola.    After the lighting display, Central Floridians were treated to 30-minutes of fireworks that lit up the night’s sky.

Throughout the afternoon, beginning at 4:00 p..m., there was live entertainment on two stages from Dreams the Band, K92 FM Texaco County Showdown, Orlando Concert Band and Iced Down Band.  A play area had also been established for kids and there was lots of festive Fourth of July cuisine on sale.

Residents and visitors also had an opportunity to purchase a piece of the old Lake Eola Fountain.  Souvenirs had been made out of remnants from the original and iconic Lake Eola Fountain are were on sale for $10-$15.   All proceeds are going to benefit the Orlando Community & Youth Trust, Inc.

The historic fountain, a central feature of Lake Eola Park,  renovated and refurbished at a cost of $1.6 million.
