A 23-year-old was arrested for DUI after he struck and killed a pedestrian walking on the Adamo Dr. roadway in Tampa.
Tampa Police were dispatched to the report of a pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck on Adamo Dr. early Monday morning. Although life-saving measures were performed at the scene, the pedestrian later died because of his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was arrested for DUI.
At 2:50am, 23-year-old Mical Scott was driving his 2015 Chevrolet pickup east on Adamo Dr., past 39th St. At the same time, 24-year-old Pannel Datilus was walking in the roadway on Adamo Dr., not at an intersection or a crosswalk.
The Chevrolet struck the pedestrian, propelling him forward on Adamo Dr. Although CPR was performed by responding officers and Tampa Fire Rescue transported him to a nearby hospital, Datilus later died due to his injuries.
There was full airbag deployment in the vehicle and heavy damage to the front of the truck suggesting that speed may also be a factor in the crash. The truck was impounded, to be processed for evidence.
Scott was evaluated by officers and placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Falkenburg Road Jail. As this remains an active investigation, additional charges are possible and will be determined based on the evidence, according to local law enforcement.
