A drunk Lakeland man who jumped off the Polk Parkway after Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop, is in critical condition.
32-year-old Troy Crotts, a white male, was driving erratically on Saturday around 3:30 a.m., on Polk County Parkway between Warning Road and Harden Boulevard, deputies say.
A traffic stop on the Crotts’ vehicle was initiated and a deputy detected the smell of alcohol, as he approached the vehicle. The deputy removed the keys from the vehicle before walking back to his patrol car. As the deputy walked back to his patrol car, Crotts, without warning exited his vehicle on the passenger side and jumped off the Polk Parkway.
Crotts fell approximately 25 feet, just off the overpass and landed on the access road. He sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center and is in critical condition.
If Crotts survives, he will still DUI charges, deputies say.
The investigation is ongoing.
