The Orange Country Sheriff’s Office is investigating what appears to be the drowning death of a 23-year old female.
On Thursday morning, at approximately 4:14 AM the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 9-1-1 in reference to a possible drowning.
The caller advised that his girlfriend jumped into a lake at the Oakwood Apartments, and never surfaced. The caller also advised that he and his father jumped into the lake to look for her; when they found her she was not breathing. They removed her from the water and attempted to provide C.P.R.
Unfortunately when deputies and fire rescue personnel responded to the scene they found a 23 year old female, Ashley Nicole Benson (DOB 07/28/87), with no vitals; she was pronounced dead on scene.
The witness stated they were out on the dock fishing and drinking since early morning when Ms. Benson jumped into the lake for unknown reason.
The incident appears to be accidental, however the investigation is ongoing.
