Dropping like Flies

Within days of each other, another member working with Casey Anthony defense team has quit.  This time it is Marti Mackenzie, the media relations consultant.  According to a report by WDBO, Mackenzie left the team  saying in an e-mail yesterday, February 16th, that “Effective today, I will no longer be a media liaison for the Casey Anthony defense team.”

It was only last week-end that one of Casey Anthony’s attorneys, Todd Macaluso, was forced to step aside, given his own legal problems.  According to reports, Macaluso is accused of check fraud, that is, writing checks against a trust fund account of a client in California.  He is accused of misappropriating funds to the tune of over $100,000 and could face disciplinary action by the California Bar Association.

Mackenzie, a well-known media relations consultant, quit on the same day that the state released new photos and hundreds of images, including duct tape, syringe, a doll, car seat, trunk liner from Casey’s car, and a knife which prosecutors believe was used to cut the duct tape.  Manuals on how the FBI undertook its examination of the evidence and a water death report were also released.

The duct tape on little Caylee’s skull when her remains were found, is similar to duct tape on gas cans in the Anthony family home and what was used to secure fliers and photos where it was believed that the two-year-old was missing.  Prosecutors believe that the duct tape is central in linking Casey Anthony to the murder of her daughter, Caylee, although they are unsure precisely how she was killed.

Legal experts have said that the case against Casey Anthony is a circumstantial one and prosecutors will present the totality of evidence to the jury.

Casey Anthony, 23, is charged with first degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. She is in an Orange County Jail awaiting trial which could commence sometime in 2011.  If convicted, Anthony could face the death penalty.
