Driver who suffered medical complications, kills wife in crash on Orange County east side

Florida Highway Patrol said, Carl Sala, 63, the driver of the Toyota Camry which crashed on Hoffner Avenue near La Belle Street on Tuesday night, died today at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

A man who lost control of his vehicle on Hoffner Avenue on Tuesday night, before it overturned killing his wife, was suffering from complications from a medical procedure earlier in the day, traffic homicide investigators believe.

Florida Highway Patrol said, Carl Sala, 63, was going to the Orlando Regional Medical Center around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Toyota Camry he was driving left the roadway near La Belle Street, overturned and struck a brick wall. Both Sala and his wife, Linda Sala, 63, became trapped in the vehicle.

Linda Sala was taken to the ORMC where she was pronounced dead.  Carl Sala suffered critical injuries in the crash and was also transported to ORMC.

Troopers also said, before Carl Sala lost control of the Camry, he clipped another vehicle that was traveling westbound on Hoffner Avenue, and continued on his way.

This crash remains under investigation, Florida Highway Patrol said.
