A major crash involving a semi truck improperly parked on the I-4 near Mile Marker 94 in Seminole County, and a Ford Ranger, resulted in the closure of several lanes of I-4 on Monday night, FHP said. The driver of the Ford Ranger suffered serious injuries.
Troopers said that a 2007 semi truck driven by William M. Palmer, 66, of Geneva, New York, was improperly parked along the westbound shoulder of Interstate 4, just west of the rest area near Mile Marker 94, when the Ford Ranger, driven by William E. Loos, 60, of Altamonte Springs, heading westbound around 9:25 pm, lost control on the wet roadway and crashed into the semi.
The crash resulted in 50-60 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled on to the roadway, troopers said. Traffic was backed up for miles and had to be rerouted into the emergency lane.
Loos sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs. Troopers say he was charged with careless driving.
Meanwhile, Palmer, the driver of the semi, sustained no injuries, but was charged with improperly parking on I-4.
