Driver Killed in High-Speed Car Crash

An Orlando driver was killed after the car he was driving fast crashed into a tree on Winter Garden Vineland Road in Orange County, early on Sunday morning, authorities say.

The driver, 27-year-old John O. Martinez was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers said, Martinez, driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage north on Winter Garden Vineland Road near Jacaranda Boulevard at high speed, failed to negotiate a curve to the right.

The car traveled into the center median, where the right side struck a tree and continued northbound and the front of the vehicle struck another tree.

Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Authorities will perform toxicology tests to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash, which occurred just before 3:30 a.m.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
