With the District Tournament just two weeks away, the battle for the top seed between Boone and Dr. Phillips went to the Panthers in both contests. Women’s Water Polo shook off the rust from an extended break and scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to win going away, 8-4, on Senior Night. DP trailed at the half, 3-2, but sophomore Jillian Goulden found the back of the net twice and senior Heather MacNeil added a penalty shot goal to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead heading into the final period. After Boone pulled within a goal, junior Allie Magrino took a perfect pass from senior Meredith Canty and fired a shot that grazed the crossbar and dropped into the net for her second goal of the night. Heather MacNeil gave DP a 7-4 lead on a power play goal off an assist from sophomore Jacqueline James and Meredith Canty iced the game with a dart into the upper right corner for the 8-4 final. MacNeil led all scorers with three goals as well as three steals while Magrino (two goals, two assists, five steals), Goulden (two goals, steal) and Canty (goal, assist) filled out the scoring column. Senior Marissa Goodrum had another solid performance in the cage with 11 saves and an assist. DP (15-5) has now extended its school record winning streak to ten games and will take on Olympia Tuesday night for the Metro West Conference Championship.

Men’s Water Polo jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 16-1 thrashing of Boone to secure the top seed in the upcoming District Tournament. Prior to the game, DP recognized seniors Reed Davis, Ian Perkins, Barrett Brinker and Nate Hamner and not coincidentally, all four factored contributed handsomely to the victory. In the opening period, sophomore Evan Staton scored three of his four goals, one on a penalty shot, while junior Ian Supra and Reed Davis added scores to jump start DP to a 5-0 lead. In the second quarter, Supra connected again for and Nate Hamner joined the scoring frenzy as well to make it 7-0 before Boone responded with a goal. With less than seven seconds remaining in the half, Evan Staton picked up a steal, drove right down the middle of the pool and punched in a goal at the buzzer for an 8-1 lead at the break. Barrett Brinker owned the second half, scoring all of his team-high five goals in the final two periods, with sophomore Anshul Devnani, Ian Supra and senior Ian Perkins finishing off the barrage. Brinker finished with five goals, three steals and an assist, Evan Staton tallied four goals, two assists and two steals while Ian Supra closed out with three goals, four assists and three steals. Ian Perkins (goal, two assists, three steals), Reed Davis (goal, two assists, two steals) and Nic Lachinski (11 saves, assist, two steals) also had superb nights as well. DP improved their record to 14-1 with their ninth consecutive victory and will take on Olympia Tuesday night for the Metro West Conference Championship.

Over at Southwest Middle School, DP Men’s Volleyball team took on Orlando Christian Prep in a District showdown and this one was all DP. Justin Soffer and Alberto Feliciano finished with six kills each and Vin Duarte ended up with eight assists as DP (9-5) buried OCP, 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 for their fourth straight victory.
