Junior Roderick Proctor captured first place in the high jump (5′ 10), second in the triple jump (43′ 3.5) and third in the long jump (21′ 3.5) to lead a contingent of 17 top five finishes as Men’s Track and Field won the 16-team Spruce Creek Invitational. Freshman Alvin Bryant took the silver medal in the 400m (52.05) while second place finishes were also turned in by sophomore Jean Julme in the high jump (5′ 8) as well as the 4 x 100m (41.92) and 4 x 400m (3:26.64) relay teams. Senior Tony Davis placed third in the 110m hurdles (16.01) and fourth in the 300m hurdles (42.08). Junior Anthony Rojas placed third in the 3000m (9:51.11) as did the 4 x 800m relay team (8:47.87). Other top five finishers included senior Denzel Hanna in the triple jump (4th at 42′ .25), junior Adam Lawrence in the 3000m (5th at 9:59.61), junior Marvin Brown in the 200m (5th at 23.03) and 100m (5th at 11.35), junior Javon Thomas in the 300m hurdles (5th at 42.32) and junior Jean D’Haiti in the 1500m (5th at 4:28.06). DP will head to Tampa next Saturday for the Steinbrenner Invitational.
Women’s Track and Field placed in the top five in 11 events en route to a strong second place finish at the 15-team Spruce Creek Invitational in Port Orange. Junior Ionna McKenzie captured first place in the triple jump at 36′ 5.5, senior Amber Johnson registered a pair of second place finishes in the 1500m (5:01.08) and the 3000 m (10:57.17) and junior Kira Myers was second in the pole vault at 9′ 00. DP also took second in the 4 x 800m relay (10:27.92) and third in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:10.69. Other top five finishers included junior Marly Joseph in the 400m (4th at 1:00.80), freshman Alahni Wood in the long jump (4th at 17′ 2.75), triple jump (4th at 33′ 2.5) and 100m hurdles (5th at 16.75). Our 4 x 100m relay placed fourth in 50.85 and junior Kim Nesmith finished fifth in the 100m with a time of 13.20. DP will travel to the Steinbrenner Invitational in Tampa next Saturday.
Down in Boca Raton, DP Women’s Water Polo closed out the St. Andrew’s Tournament with victories over the host team, 8-2, as well as an 8-3 victory over Boca Raton. DP (7-5) finished the weekend with a 3-1 record to place fifth out of 15 teams. In the morning match with St. Andrew’s, senior Heather MacNeil paced the Panthers with three goals and a steal, junior Allie Magrino added two goals and three steals, and sophomore Emily Kliewer had a goal and two steals. Sophomore Jacqueline James registered a goal, an assist and a steal and sophomore Jillian Goulden scored a goal as well. In the afternoon finale with Boca Raton, DP jumped on the Bobcats early and steadily pulled away for the 8-3 victory. Heather MacNeil tallied a game-high four goals along with two steals and an assist and Jacqueline James put two into the back of the net and picked up a steal as well. Senior Meredith Canty finished with a goal and three steals, Emily Kliewer had a goal and two steals and Allie Magrino finished with four steals and two assists. Marissa Goodrum had two strong outings in goal for the Panthers, recording seven saves in game one and another six in game two. The ladies have a busy week ahead with five games, including a rescheduled date with West Orange tomorrow at Farnsworth Pool at 4:00.
DP Men’s Lacrosse jumped out to a 10-4 halftime lead and kept pace the rest of the way to pick up their fifth victory of the season Friday night at Windermere Prep, 13-8. Brett Forward led the Panthers with four goals and two assists and Nick Forward scored three and assisted on two more. Credit Ian Decker with two goals and two assists, Alex Norton with two goals, Jake Gillen with a goal and eight ground balls, Doug Essig with a goal and an assist and Connor Jackson with an assist. Junior Nick Connor had a sensational game in goal with a season-high 13 saves.
Men’s Volleyball rebounded from a pair of tough losses to state power Archbishop McCarthy and Boone by avenging a previous loss to Cypress Creek with a 25-23, 25-23 victory at the DP Invitational at OVA. The Panthers (3-4) gave McCarthy a battle in their first match of the day (23-25, 18-25) and put forth a solid showing against Boone as well (22-25, 25-27). Kevin Rocklein finished with 35 kills and five blocks in the tournament and Alberto Feliciano registered 30 digs and five aces.
DP senior Sydnei McCaskill was named the Central Florida Women’s Basketball Player of the Year! McCaskill led the Panthers to their third consecutive State Championship while averaging 13.2 points and 9.1 assists per game. She also was named the Most Valuable Player of the State Final Four as well. Joining McCaskill on the first team All-Central Florida roster is senior Hannah Schaible, who led DP in points (15.6) and rebounds (8.3) per game and junior guard Jade Cheek was named to the All-Central Florida fourth team.
