The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and its construction team welcomed local Cub Scout Webelos to earn their engineer activity badge on Saturday, March 17.
Conducted for the second year in a row by Balfour Beatty Construction, the construction manager for the Dr. Phillips Center, the event featured facilitators from the Center’s construction team including HKS Architects, Carmen Dominguez Construction, and Tri-City Electrical. The Webelos learned many aspects of developing and constructing a performing arts center including architecture, civil engineering, electricity, hoisting mechanics and construction.
The Webelos program prepares young Cub Scouts for the Boy Scouts through the acquisition of 20 different activity badges, arranged into five groups: Physical Skills, Mental Skills, Community, Outdoor Group and Technology Group. After the event, Balfour Beatty Construction presented the Webelos with the engineer activity badge, which falls under the Technology Group category. This will ultimately help to advance the boys toward their Arrow of Light, the highest award a Cub Scout can earn.
