Local feature film and television producer Robin Cowie, the newly appointed Creative Director for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, will produce a series of short films for the center titled Focus On Local. On March 10 at 7:00 p.m., local filmmakers are invited to attend a creative collaboration meet-up to kick off the project at the brand new Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center housed at the Orange County Public Library in downtown Orlando.

The short films will document the large variety of talented performing artists who call Central Florida home. Collaborators will work in teams of five, focusing on one particular artist and their story. The production will take place over one weekend: March 28 – 30. Cowie brings more than 20 years of entertainment experience to the project, having produced seven feature films, including the smash hit The Blair Witch Project, two television series, and several theater projects.

“I see this as an opportunity for local filmmakers and artists to collectively shine a light on the amazing talent in this community,” said Cowie.

“The mission of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is to celebrate Arts For Every Life. This project with Robin, the local filmmakers and the artists of Central Florida is the perfect way to put that promise into action,” said Dr. Phillips Center President Kathy Ramsberger.

The filmmakers will be paired with an artist on the Friday night, film them on Saturday, and edit the films on Sunday. The short films will then premier at the Orange County Library in downtown Orlando mid-April in front of the volunteer ambassadors for the Dr. Phillips Center known as The Circle. As well, the films will be shared online through all of the Dr. Phillips Center social channels and footage will be a part of a special film called Arts For Every Life, which will premier at the Orlando Film Festival in October 2014.
