Women’s Swimming put together amazing performances from the opening event to the record-shattering finale as they captured the program’s first Regional Championship. Senior captain Angela Algee and junior Allie Magrino collected three gold medals apiece as the Panthers came from behind late and outdistanced runner-up Gainesville Buchholz, 299-254 for the crown. DP saved its best race for last as the 400 freestyle relay team of Cindy Cheng, Emily Kliewer, Allie Magrino and Angela Algee obliterated the previous school record with a gold medal and All-America Consideration time of 3:31.21, lopping over a second and a half off the old mark in 1998. The Panthers’ winning time is also the top seed at next week’s State Championship. DP also started off the meet in gold medal fashion in the 200 medley relay as Cindy Cheng, Blake Broullire, Emily Kliewer and Allie Magrino touched the wall in 1:51.93. Angela Algee won back-to back individual gold medals in the 50 freestyle (24.13) and 100 butterfly (All-America Consideration 55.51) and Allie Magrino won her first individual Regional gold in the 200 individual medley in 2:09.25, edging the silver medalist by one hundredth of a second and the bronze medalist by two hundredths of a second! Sophomore Emily Kliewer placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:10.29) while sophomore Sunny Zhu was 12th at 2:15.58 and senior captain Heather MacNeil placed 15th at 2:19.83.
