A newly formed task force will meet today, for the first time, to begin a comprehensive visioning process which will serve as the roadmap for the continued revitalization of Downtown Orlando.

Project DTO -Advancing Downtown Task Force, which is composed of more than 70 community leaders appointed by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, is chaired by Fred Kittinger, Associate Vice President at the University of Central Florida. Brooke Myers, President of Emerge Real Estate Ventures and Philip Holt, Co-founder and CEO of SPLYT will serve as vice chairs.

According to a statement from the city of Orlando, “the [visioning] process will emphasize heavy public and stakeholder outreach, including crowd sourcing and interactive public experiences to gain insight into the community’s needs and interests.”  The Project DTO Task Force is expected to work in coordination with the ongoing Parramore Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan, the statement added.

Project DTO’s recommendations are expected to build on those outlined by the Downtown Strategic Transition Team (DSTT), which was launched in 2003. Of the 166 recommendations made by the DSTT, the city claims 136 have been completed or are in progress.

Project DTO will present their findings in the first quarter of 2015.
