A standoff between a man in his home and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators on Sunday afternoon has ended peacefully. Deputies, SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to a house in the 2100 block of Huntleigh Point in Orlando on Sunday afternoon, following a domestic incident.
Investigators were advised by a female occupant of the home around 3:10 pm, on Sunday, that she was involved in a physical fight with her husband. The woman advised investigators that she fired a handgun at her husband.
The woman was transported to the ORMC where she was examined and treated with minor injuries consistent with a physical fight.
Meanwhile, deputies made repeated attempts to make contact with the husband inside the residence. The man told deputies that he had been shot and had self-inflicted injuries. Since providing that initial information, deputies were unable to make further contact with him.
The SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators who responded to the scene failed in several attempts to contact the man believed to be injured. When the man did not vacate the home the SWAT Team entered the residence and began a room by room search in an attempt to locate him.
The man was found approximately 7:45 pm, located in a bedroom in the rear portion of the home. SWAT Team members secured the man and took him into custody without incident. The man, 59-years-old, had injuries, some of which appeared to be self-inflicted, deputies said. He was treated by Orange County Fire Rescue and transported to ORMC. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The man was conscious and alert when he was taken into custody.
The incident is being investigated by the agency’s Domestic Violence Squad. No charges have been filed at this time.
Investigators have not released the name of the female and male involved.
The investigation into this incident is continuing.
