DOH: Unsanitary Drug Compounding Company in Florida Shut Down

The Florida Department of Health on Friday announced it had shut down a Boca Raton-based pharmaceutical company in the wake of a national uproar over tainted steroids manufactured by an unrelated company that has led to three deaths on Florida.

On Friday, Florida Surgeon General John Armstrong announced that the agency had ordered Rejuvi Pharmaceuticals to stop production after an inspection earlier this month found violations of “a number of statutes and rules relating to the cleanliness of the prescription department.”

Like NECC, Rejuvi is a drug compounder, a growing industry of companies that make medicinal drugs prescribed by physicians for specific patients that cannot be filled by commercially available drugs. To do this, the companies combine ingredients.

The industry has come under heightened scrutiny following an outbreak of fungal meningitis linked to injected steroids produced by NECC, a Massachusetts based compounding company.

  1. The Huffpost Healthly Living article expands this news. It reported that the Health Department reviewed previous inspections that showed Rejuvi had been notified of these violations and failed to correct them. If these violations are noted and are not corrected in subsequent inspections why didn’t the Florida Health Department wait until now to shut them down??? ,
