DNC Chair Joins FDP Chair to Campaign in Florida ahead of Special Election

Ahead of Tuesday’s special congressional election in Florida, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin is joining FDP Chair Nikki Fried on the ground in Congressional District 6 as Democrats try to pull off a surprise victory against President Donald Trump and Republicans.

Early voting is underway in Florida’s special elections and Democrats said the party is committed to compete and build infrastructure everywhere.

Chairs Martin and Fried are attending grassroots events as Florida Democrats get out the vote this weekend in this closely contested congressional race. Democrat Josh Weil is taking on Trump-endorsed Republican Randy Fine in the FL-6 race.

The Florida 6th congressional district race is to replace former Republican Congressman Michael Waltz, who resigned to serve as President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor. The general election on April 1, 2025 will be seen as an early bellwether of Democratic enthusiasm in the new Trump administration.

On Saturday, Chair Martin will be in Daytona Beach and on Sunday, Chair Martin will be in St. Augustine on the state of Florida’s congressional races, Democrats’ momentum with a track record of overperforming in recent special elections, and the DNC’s ongoing commitment to Florida.

The Democratic events will serve as kickoffs for GOTV canvass efforts in those areas to turn out voters.

Democrat Josh Weil recently announced that his campaign has raised over $10 million for the cycle in the FL-6 congressional special election, but will it translate to votes?

Trump-endorsed Republican candidate Randy Fine called the Democratic campaign of Josh Weil “a $10 million scam,” claiming his opponent is paying himself hundreds of thousands of dollars in “candidate salary,” rent, and “extravagant entertainment.”
