Did Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and her family receive special beneficial treatment from the Orlando City soccer team owner for her support of a new soccer stadium?
In an email exchange just uncovered through public records requests, Orlando City soccer owner Phil Rawlins writes Mayor Jacobs following up from a meeting between the two. In the email, Rawlins tells Jacobs:
“Please ask your daughter to contact Jeff Garcia, Jeff is our Director of Corp Sales re. her Red Bull opportunity.”
What is Mayor Jacobs’ daughter doing contacting the director of corporate sales while the soccer team is lobbying Mayor Jacobs and Orange County for millions of dollars to build a new stadium?
No elected official in Florida is to benefit privately, nor should their family. These are the practices of the past corruption we’re supposed to be done with.
Red Bull happens to be part of Major League Soccer, with the New York Red Bulls team. Red Bull is also of course an energy drink. In this case it really doesn’t matter.
If it helps Teresa Jacobs’ family, it is a bribe.
There is a difference between an introduction, and a bribe. As part of my daily business, I regularly recommend and introduce one client to another.

Clear violation of conflict of interest laws…unless there’s no conflict of interest laws in this bogus state.
I think “opportunity” is used and would she have the “opportunity” if she didn’t know the elected official? Also, goes on to say FREE admission to games, etc. So, yes I think there is some illegal activity going on here. Does it happen daily and all over? Yes.
If the mayor got behind the Orlando City MLS effort in exchange for her daughter getting free admission to games, she got a really crappy deal. Those tickets are like $15. Surely the mayor’s daughter can afford that. But yeah, this kinda stinks. More information would be helpful.
At least the county mayor stays sober during meetings. 8:00 is three hours past the 5:00 Happy Hour. Some may think that is a rather low bar.
