Not even persistent rain showers on Saturday morning could stop the hundreds of guests who turned up at the palatial home of Orange County businessman Derrick Wallace, to witness him wed Sharon Kay Jones, a native of Memphis, Tennessee.

Wearing a light cream-colored suit and Clemson orange and white striped shirt, Wallace cheerfully greeted the many guests, several of whom came from Atlanta, Memphis, Knoxville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Miami, to share in the joyous occasion.

Shortly after the seating of the Mothers – Godmother of the Bride, Joyce M. Blackman and Mother of the Groom, Theressa Williams – and a rendition from soloist Carla Scott, Matron of Honor, A. Clara McGee, took up her position on the portico balcony of the couple’s home overlooking Lake Mann.

Then came the beautiful bride-to-be dressed in a gorgeous silver sequined saree and veil, complemented with a fashionable silver Mang Tika and necklace, making quite a fashion statement.

Rev. Terence Gray, Pastor of St. Mark AME Church officiated the ceremony, at which the couple spoke their vows and exchanged rings.

The wedding gifts consisted of hundreds of toys to be shared with the many needy kids in the community, as requested by Wallace who is running in the race for Orange County Commissioner, District 6.

And now it was time to really celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Wallace, with champagne flowing freely, a wide array of delectable delights and lots of good music. As one guest said, “It’s the biggest and most tasteful wedding I’ve been to in Orange County.”

Derrick and Sharon have four children – Daunte, Naja, Rhyane and Deja.
