Deputy Sustains Serious Injuries in Boggy Creek Crash

An Osceola County sheriff’s deputy suffered serious injuries after his patrol car was hit by a vehicle that had swerved to avoid being hit by a third car.

Deputy Rolin Holsteen, 29, was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, following the crash on Boggy Creek Road near Lakeside Drive, just before 6:00 on Thursday.

Troopers said, Holsteen was heading north on Boggy Creek Road on the inside through lane when his patrol car was hit by a 1997 BMW, heading southbound, that had swerved to avoid a 1997 Kia traveling eastbound on Lakeside Drive.

Troopers also said, 61-year-old Hiram Cruz who was driving the Kia, entered the intersection, violating the right of way of 45-year-old Wilma Noa, the driver of the BMW.

Cruz’ Kia was not hit, troopers said.

There are conflicting statements about the color of the traffic light, Florida Highway Patrol. Cruz told troopers he had a flashing red light, Noa stated she had a green light and Deputy Holsteen said the light was flashing yellow.

Cruz was unhurt, while Noa sustained minor injuries and was transported to Florida Hospital in Kissimmee.

Cruz was charged with violating a right of way.
