A man was shot by an Orange County deputy after the suspect rammed his vehicle into the officer and a marked patrol car on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred just before 1:00 a.m., in the dead end of Golfside Drive in Orlando.
It all began when authorities were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the area of Semoran Boulevard and Aloma Avenue. Deputies discovered the driver of the vehicle passed out while stopped at the traffic light.
Officers ordered the driver out of the vehicle, but the man refused. Instead the man fled the scene striking the deputy with the vehicle. A pursuit followed into the dead end of Golfside Drive where officers attempted a felony stop, but the suspect rammed one of the patrol cars and headed in the direction of the deputies. Fearful, the deputy opened fire, striking the man in his upper body.
Investigators say, the man continued to flee, but eventually surrended during a second felony stop at the intersection of Summerfield and RAnger Boulevard.
Wadklys Napoleon, 24 years, has been identified as the driver and suspect.
Napoleon was transported to the Winter Park Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorites say, Napoleon has a long and extensive criminal history, to include armed robbery, other weapons and narcotics charges.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been requested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation into the deputy-involved shooting incident.
As customary, it is expected that the unnamed deputy, involved in the shooting will be assigned to administrative duties for at least a week.
