A man was shot and killed by an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy on Friday evening after the man lunged at the deputy with a knife, authorities said.
The shooting happened on 5902 Gamble Drive in Pine Hills around 6:00 p.m.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had gone to the residence to serve three felony warrants on the man. As they approached the residence, the homeowner informed deputies that the man was inside.
Deputies went into the residence, but as they approached the man, he produced a knife and lunged at a deputy. The deputy opened fire and the man was later pronounced dead.

Deputies said the warrants being served on the man were for domestic aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, grand theft and carjacking.
According to news reports, deputies mistakenly went to the wrong house before going to the 5902 Gamble Drive address to serve the unnamed man the three warrants. Eddie King who lives nearby said his house was ransacked, before deputies determined that they were at the wrong location.

The Pine Hills shooting comes one day after the Orange County Sheriff’s Office established a Citizens Advisory Committee to study relevant policy regarding shooting at or into moving vehicles and make recommendations, if any, for positive change.
