An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man, after he failed to follow orders to drop his weapon.
The shooting occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the Whisper Lakes subdivision located at Briana Court.
Investigators arrived at the location in response to a disturbance and found a man threatening another one with a firearm.
Deputies ordered the man with the weapon to drop the firearm, but he refused, a spokesman from the Sheriff’s Office said. A deputy then opened fire, killing him. It is unclear how many shots were fired.
Investigators determined the deceased had injured the other man, who was taken to a local area hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of deceased, nor the deputy who shot and killed him.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting and the deputy has been assigned to administrative duties for at least one week.
