Orange Deputy Shoots at Getaway Vehicle, 4 in Custody

Four suspects are in custody after an Orange County deputy opened fire on a vehicle believed to be fleeing the scene of a burglary early on Friday morning.

The deputy was responding to an alarm call from Target at west Sand Lake Road around 5:00 a.m., when he spotted a white van exiting the parking lot.

The suspect vehicle entered the Las Palmas Apartment Complex with the deputy in pursuit and the four suspect ran into the complex, investigators said.

According to investigators, the suspects jumped into another vehicle, this time a dark colored one, and headed for the deputy. That’s when the officer opened fire.

Arriving units were able to apprehend three of the four suspects in the parking lot of the Sports Authority nearby. The fourth suspect fled on foot but was tracked down by an OCSO K-9. He was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening dog bit wounds.

Investigators discovered multiple electronic items inside the white van originally seen by the deputy.

The unnamed deputy will be assigned to administrative duties, as an investigation into the deputy-involved shooting is undertaken.

The names of the suspects have not been released.
