A 22-year-old University of Florida student has been arrested, accused of traveling to Polk County to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Polk County deputies arrested Steven M. Nixon at his home in Gainesville on Saturday.
Authorities said, Nixox met the 14-year-old girl on line and developed the relationship with the child.
Investigators also said, Nixon traveled between June through November 2011, to Polk County to engage in sex with the 14-year-old victim. The relationship was discovered, when the victim’s mother overheard her daughter discussin the relationship with another female. The girl’s mother contacted Polk County deputies about what she had learned.
Nixon, upon his arrest, told detectives he had a full academic scholarship for an engineering degree at the University of Florida.
Authorities said, Nixon was previously arrested in August 2010, and charged with traveling to meet another 14-year-old girl for sex. On this occasion, he traveled from Brandon to Polk County to meet the victim, picked her up and attemped to engage in sexual activity. Â But the 14-year-old pulled away and was unharmed.
Nixon was charged on January 7, 2012, with lewd and lascivious battery, traveling to meet a minor and solicitation of sex with a minor. He was booked into the Polk County Jail, with no bond.
