Deputies: Teens Attempt to Run Down Officer with Stolen Vehicle

Two teenagers have been arrested, accused of burglarizing vehicles and attempting to run down a deputy in the Mallard Park area, investigators said.

Alex Torres and Gabriel Rymer, both 17-years-old, were taken into custody early on Tuesday morning, and charged with grand motor vehicle theft and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Investigators said, a deputy working in an off duty capacity observed two suspects, later identified as Torres and Rymer, in a stolen vehicle just before 11:00 p.m. on Monday night. The pair had burglarized vehicles on Falcon Pointe Drive in the Mallard Park area at Hunter’s Creek, investigators said.

Deputies attempted to stop the stolen vehicle as it left Mallard Park, but the driver of the vehicle accelerated toward one of the deputies, attempting to hit him, as it fled the area. A deputy fired one round on the vehicle, and jumped out of its path.

Investigators said, the suspects attempted to abandon the vehicle on Shinoak Drive, and tried to flee the scene on foot.

A perimeter was set up and both Torres and Rymer were apprehended without incident. They have been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement and grand theft, among other charges.

Deputies said, no one was injured during the incident.

The deputy involved in the shooting has not been released.
