Sheriff’s Office Releases Name of Victim in Deputies-Involved Shooting

The name of the victim in the deputies’ shooting incident on Wednesday is Jerry Mark Cardin, 47 years.

Cardin was injured when three deputies fired their weapons at him.

Patrol deputies had responded to Cardin’s home, after receiving a call from a woman, reporting her husband’s violent and possible suicidal behavior.

Deputies said, when patrol deputies arrived at the residence on Park Spring Circle, Cardin emerged from the home armed with a long gun, pointing it in the direction of the deputies.  Three deputies opened fire, hitting Cardin.

Cardin was injured and taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.

The names of the deputies involved, who were not injured, have not been released.  They are expected to be placed in administrative capacities for a minimum of one week.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings has asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct an investigation in the deputies’ shooting.

The Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own separate and concurrent review.
