Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said that the suspect was wearing a black t-shirt, white shorts, and white tennis shoes at the time of the shooting.  He wore a dew rag on his head. He is described as a black male, about 5′ 10″ to 6′ 0″ tall, thin build with tattoos on his forearm.  The suspect fled the scene in a silver newer model compact vehicle.

Detectives said that Aikens and the suspect were arguing in front of the victim’s vehicle outside a business strip mall at 6814 Forest City Road near Kennedy Avenue, when the suspect ran to his car for a handgun.  The suspect returned to Aikens’ location and shot him.

Aikens, 40, who was a CD vendor, died on the spot.

Deputies said that just prior to Aikens’ shooting, a second victim attempted to intervene in the confrontation.  After Aikens was shot, the suspect chased the second victim down and shot and wounded him.  The second victim, who has not been identified, was able to run to an area business, Kathy’s Wings & Subs, to ask for help.

Detectives are continuing with their investigation and reviewing additional evidence which would be very helpful in making an arrest.
