Deputies peacefully resolved a barricaded suspect standoff in Central Florida after the man stabbed his girlfriend and barricaded himself armed with a firearm.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s Communication Center recently received a call for service from a neighbor who heard screaming outside of a home on Cape Cod Circle in Valrico, near Tampa.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim, suffering from stab wounds. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Deputies learned the stabbing occurred during a dispute between the victim and suspect, a known felon, 21-year-old Stanley France.
France then armed himself with a firearm and threatened five other individuals inside the home. The victims fled in fear for their lives, as France barricaded himself inside the attic.
HCSO’s SWAT, Bomb, and Crisis Negotiation Teams responded to the scene. After thorough negotiations, deputies safely took France into custody without further incident.
“The suspect showed no regard for the life of the victim or anyone else in that home, yet our deputies remained focused and calm, ensuring everyone’s safety,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This tense and dangerous situation ended without further harm because of the incredible work of our deputies and their patience, professionalism, and determination to protect every life.”
France, who has a lengthy criminal history and a prior felony conviction, faced charges of: Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (x5), and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
