Deputies are investigating a possible murder-suicide of two adult victims in Lakeland.

Polk County investigators arrived on Wednesday, just after 2:00 p.m., at a home in the 6200 block of Cornerstone Drive in Lakeland where they found two adult victims deceased.

Investigators have not said how the two died, nor have the identities of the victims been released.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more.

UPDATE: September 10, 7:30 p.m.

Deputies believe James “Kevin” Denny, 45, shot his wife, Jennifer Denny, 41, then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies arrived at the couple’s home at 6250 Cornerstone Drive in Lakeland, after an adult male, believed to be James Denny, placed a call to 911, saying that shots were fired and deputies needed to come to the house.

When detectives arrived at the scene, they found Hannah Denny, 10, who lives with her parents crying and upset.  Hannah told deputies that her parents’ bedroom door was locked, she heard the gunshots, but could not get in.

Deputies made entry to the master bedroom and located Jenifer and Kevin, both deceased from gunshot wounds.

While an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death, deputies believe that Kevin fatally shot his wife Jennifer, then fatally shot himself with a handgun.

Kevin Denny is the planning director for Hardee County.

Hannah attends Spessard L. Holland Elementary School in Lakeland.  Currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families, she will likely be turned over to her grandparents who live in the area, Polk County deputies said.

“This is a tragedy of monumental proportions. Please keep Hannah and her family members in your prayers during this difficult time,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
