Deputies have identified one of two victims in an apparent murder-suicide that happened in the 4000 block of Evander Drive off Gatlin Avenue and S. Conway Road on Thursday afternoon.

55-year-old Patricia Hitt Kilgast has been identified as one of the deceased.  According to news reports, it is believed that Kilgast was shot by her husband who then turned the gun on himself.

Deputies arrived at the couple’s home around 4:00 p.m., after a man, believed to be the brother of Patricia Kilgast’s husband called 911 stating that, her husband said he killed someone and was going to take his own life.

Initially, contact was made with the man inside the home and a dialogue was established via telephone, deputies also say.  Although the man agreed to come out, deputies then heard a single gunshot.

Two bodies were found inside the garage after deputies entered the home.  Patricia Kilgast was identified as one of the victims.  Deputies have not officially identified the other deceased individual.

  2. She taught my son and daughter! We all absolutely thought the world of her. She was always smiling and so happy. My kids still to this day talk about her. She was amazing and I have no doubt in my mind that she is in heaven because she was an angel here on earth! This news is tragic and we are truly devastated! I feel honored and blessed to have known her while I did.
