A former town council member was arrested on Saturday, accused of burglarizing a car, Polk County deputies said.
68-year-old Robert Kampsen of Dundee was taken into custody, after investigators said, he stole $50 bucks from a parked car at a resident in Dundee.
The victim told deputies she saw a man, later identified as Kampsen, leaning his entire upper body through the open car window of her Honda Civic, parked in her driveaway. When she shouted at the man, he began honking her car horn and yelled, “Get your dog!”.
The victim’s son, who went outside to confront Kampsen, discovered that a $50 bill was missing from the console inside the Honda.
Kampsen told investigators he was only leaning into the car to alert the homeowner that her dog was at his friend’s house, instead of in his own yard. He denied taking the $50.
Investigators say, when they searched Kampsen, they found the $50 bill in his pocket.
Kampsen was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail.
Kampsen is a former Dundee Town Council Member for the Town of Dundee and served as the city’s code enforcement officer from 2004 to 2005.
