A brother and sister, who took along a 2-year-old for the ride when they packed their vehicle with Frito-Lay chips from a factory in Ocala, are now in jail.
Deputies arrested, Darren L. Hagerman, 25, and Jessica L. Huggard, 22, both of Citra on Thursday night, after they were caught with a van packed with Frito-Lay chip.
Investigators conducted a traffic stop on the Ford van Hagerman and Huggard were in, after they saw it pull away from NW 68th Avenue onto Highway 40 in Ocala around 11:30 p.m. Investigators determined that it looked suspicious as there are multiple factories in the area and the roads are used mostly by 18-wheelers at that time of night.
Marion County deputies became suspicious too, when they saw a 2-year-old jumping around in the backseat of the van.
Hagerman told investigators, he and his sister, Huggard take chips as a way to generate income. “I got the chips from the dumpster,” Hagerman said.
As it turned out, Hagerman had a master key that worked on the gate lock at the Frito-Lay factory. Factory officials said the security gate is usually locked.
Hagerman and Huggard were charged with grand theft and booked into the Marion County Jail.
