Florida Teen Stabs Police Resource Officer

Carwise Middle School

A 7th grader stabbed a School Police Resource Officer during an altercation on Tuesday, Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies said.

The 13-year-old student, who has not been identified at this time, attends the Carwise Middle School.

Deputies said, the boy got into an altercation with Kenneth Fridlund, 55, a Pinellas County School Police Resource Officer, in the boys bathroom.   The boy stabbed the officer during the altercation, investigators said.

Fridlund was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where he underwent emergency treatment. Deputies said, his injury does not appear to be life threatening.

Fridlund has been with the Carwise campus since 2008 and prior to this was a member of the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Investigators are conducting interviews on campus with students who rode the bus to school with the 13-year-old suspect, or who may have had contact with the boy during the day.

Students will not be released from school until detectives have finished conducting their interviews, deputies said.
