In the wake of the Florida Supreme Court’s rulings to put abortion on the ballot and trigger a Senator Rick Scott-endorsed ban on abortion before most women know they’re pregnant, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell launched a statewide Florida Freedom Tour.
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell travel across the state to talk about the fight for freedom and hold Republican Senator Rick Scott accountable for “his unapologetic and proud support for Florida’s near-total abortion ban with almost no exceptions for rape or incest.”
“If Rick Scott thinks that he can push a national abortion ban in the Senate and back a near-total abortion ban in Florida without facing any consequences, then he has another thing coming to him,” said Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “As a Latina, I’ve seen these authoritarian attacks on our democratic rights before. And I won’t allow Rick Scott to take away our freedoms. I am proud to stand with the nearly 70% of Floridians who support protecting abortion access, and I’m ready to show up with them this November as we fight to protect our fundamental rights.”
The Democratic candidate launched her abortion rights tour in South Florida, with an event in West Palm Beach with State Senator Lori Berman. In Miami, she made a stop with the UMiami Dems and had a conversation with Miami community leaders on showing up for abortion rights in November. In Pembroke Pines, she held a Haitian meet and greet with State Representative Marie Woodson and Haitian-American community leaders.
Making it clear this will be a top issue against Florida Republicans in the upcoming election, Debbie For Florida’s new digital ad, Banned, focuses on Senator Rick Scott’s “full-throated support for Florida’s impending near-total abortion ban.
“Floridians aren’t going to stand by while out-of-touch extremist Rick Scott tries to take away our democratic rights,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “The energy on the ground is overwhelming – Floridians across the state are coming together to reject Rick Scott, his support for a national abortion ban and his cheerleading for Florida’s near-total abortion ban. We’re going to continue to hold Rick Scott accountable for his authoritarian attacks on our rights, stand with the nearly 70% of Floridians who support protecting abortion access, and take this message all across Florida to win in November.”
