Democratic Senator Responds to Governor DeSantis Signing Budget

After Governor DeSantis signed the state budget in Fort Pierce, Florida Senator Rosalind Osgood, a Broward County Democrat, issued a response to the signing.

“After undergoing the Governor’s veto pen, local projects in Broward County have successfully secured funding to enhance the well-being and livelihoods of our constituents,” Senator Osgood said. “However, it is deeply disheartening to witness cities like Fort Lauderdale and Lauderhill being unfairly singled out and disadvantaged during the allocation process. I firmly reject any form of mistreatment towards these already underserved communities within District 32. It is imperative that we address this issue and ensure equitable distribution of resources among all cities within the State of Florida.”

Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Framework for Freedom Budget which includes a record $2.7 billion tax relief package to help Florida families during a time of high inflation and continued federal spending, which Republicans call reckless. Governor DeSantis vetoed $510.9 million from the Florida budget.

A Broward County native and Fort Lauderdale High School graduate, Dr. Osgood serves as a member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 32. To date, Dr. Osgood has over 22 years of background in non-profit management where she has served as CEO of the Mount Olive Development Corporation (MODCO), Associate Minister at New Mount Olive Baptist Church, Former Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University Huizenga School of Business, and member of the Broward County School Board’s District 5 representative where she served as Chair twice, her leadership advances to the Boards of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the Links, Inc., and the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition Board. Her motto remains, “Overcome Obstacles by Optimizing Opportunities”
