Democratic challenger Jennifer Jenkins slammed Republican Representative Randy Fine for “Islamophobic online comments” after he posted: “If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.”
U.S. Rep. Randy Fine represents Florida’s 6th congressional district which includes Flagler County, Lake County, Marion County, Putnam County, St. John’s County, and Volusia County.
Jennifer Jenkins, candidate for Congress in Florida’s 6th congressional district who was previously running for U.S. Senate, denounced what she and other Democrats are labeling an Islamophobic post that Congressman Randy Fine made on social media. She called his comments “disgusting & un-American.”
The Democrat also attacked Rep. Randy Fine by saying he is “widely considered America’s most extreme and unhinged member of Congress.”
Jenkins, who will be up against Fine in the general election, is a former Brevard County School Board member who says she faced years of harassment from Rep. Fine.
“Randy Fine is a bigot,” Democratic candidate Jennifer Jenkins posted. “Dehumanizing an entire faith community is disgusting & un-American. Leaders don’t punch down at entire communities or normalize hate. This warrants unequivocal condemnation. There’s a reason even Republicans are calling to support this campaign. It’s because Randy Fine is a disgrace to CD 6, Florida, and the USA.”
Jenkins said the situation has gone beyond politics and now demands immediate action from Congress. Jenkins emphasized that while voters will ultimately have their say in November, Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to act now, and she wants Congress to expel the Florida Republican.
“I’m the Democrat running against Randy Fine — and we’re going to beat him in November,” Jenkins said. “But Congress cannot wait one more minute to get this guy out of power. Congress must expel Randy Fine immediately. He is the most vile and openly bigoted member of Congress today, and he will keep escalating unless Congress acts.
“This isn’t about political parties anymore. It’s about basic human decency and whether Congress has any standards at all,” Jenkins said. “If members of Congress can openly dehumanize entire communities without consequence, then what does accountability even mean? Congress must expel Randy Fine immediately.”
The Democratic challenger argued that only voters can hold Rep. Randy Fine accountable, saying a symbolic reprimand will not “stop his pattern of outrage and cruelty.” She added that Congress moves slowly and rarely acts against its own members. Jenkins launched her congressional campaign earlier this month and made this issue her launching pad against the incumbent Republican.
Democrats say that Rep. Fine’s latest remarks describe Muslims in dehumanizing terms and have sparked a national backlash. The story is escalating beyond Florida, as prominent Democratic validators including Governor Gavin Newsom and members of Congress have called for his resignation or disciplinary action. Even MAGA stalwart Megyn Kelly has called out the comments being called bigoted. Some Republicans in Florida are also distancing themselves, but the whole matter does not seem to be bothering the Central Florida Congressman.
