Democrat Michael Aviles for Commission District 3 – A Chance for Us

Michael Aviles – candidate for Orange County Commission District 3

The following was submitted by Doug Head, former chair of the Orange County Democratic Party:

The GREAT news of this Primary Campaign is the emergence of Michael Aviles as a contender in District 3, where you live.

As you know, the County Commission is a Republican Stronghold, despite its pretense to be a non-partisan institution.  Six of the seven County Commissioners are Republicans elected or appointed by Republican Governors.  This ridiculous imbalance is part of why we cannot win other offices.  Though the Republicans occasionally argue with each other, they get along with the overwhelmingly Republican State Government, and often cut deals together.

If we are to see Democratic growth and progressive policies, we have to look at changing this imbalance.   Tomorrow, this means that a key consideration is to vote for the only Democrat running for the County Commission, so we can – at least – demonstrate that we care about Democratic principles.  Just one Democrat is running…..Michael Aviles.

This remarkable, talented young man is the sort of person who might represent real progress and a future for the Democratic Party in Orange as well as serving with honor.  He is the ONLY candidate who distinguished himself in the Sentinel debate by pointing to the needs of the huge number of low income persons in the District, rather than to the needs of developers. The election on Tuesday is a race for the run-off which will occur in November, Between three Republicans and one non-partisan who has served because he was appointed by Governor Crist, we need a Democrat to go forward to November.  We need a Democrat in that race to keep faith with our Democratic principles and the future of our values.  The run-off will occur in November, but it cannot be between two non-Democrats.

Please cast your Democratic vote for Democrat Mike Aviles Tomorrow.  Take a friend and your family and vote tomorrow.
