Democrat Announces Candidacy for State Rep in District 35

Rishi Bagga, a Democrat, has declared his candidacy for State Representative in House District 35 in Central Florida.

“With the encouragement of my family and countless supporters, I’m proud today to declare my candidacy for State Representative for Florida House District 35,” he said after filing his candidacy at the Division of Elections in Tallahassee. “The announced resignation of my former opponent is anticipated to lead to a special election to fill the empty seat in the coming months.”

Since announcing his candidacy, the Central Florida Democratic candidate said he has received an outpouring of support and has been hard at work building his campaign.

His campaign is focused on:

  • Fully-funding public schools and school safety
  • Science-based policymaking and expansion of Medicaid; protecting access to contraception and abortion
  • Investing in a balance between the environment, equity, and economy
  • Diversifying Florida’s economy and higher paying jobs

“More than ever before, we must pursue a vision of a better, more affordable, inclusive, just, and equitable Florida,” Bagga added.

Rishi Bagga is an attorney and small business owner and lives in the Stoneybrook East neighborhood in the East Orlando/Alafaya area with his wife Shelly and their 2-year-old son. As a former prosecutor, he worked hard to fight for justice for victims of domestic violence crimes.

In 2022, Bagga ran against Republican Fred Hawkins, but the Democrat fell short receiving about 45% of the vote. District 35 includes Eastern Orange County and Osceola County.

Republican Scotty Moore also announced his intenton to seek the Florida House of Representatives, District 35 seat.
