Composite sketch of attempted murder, robbery suspect

Doanh Nguyen was the victim of an attempted murder and robbery on July 1, as he waited in his vehicle of his driveway on Brittany Chase Court.  Nguyen had just placed two of his three young children, ages, 6 and 3 years, in the family car just after 12:30 p.m., when he was confronted by an armed suspect who demanded money at gunpoint.

According to the incident report, Nguyen jumped out of his vehicle and struggled with the gunman for control of the firearm. Both Nguyen and the suspect fell to the ground, during which a single shot was fired.  The suspect fled the scene on foot toward the Kangaroo Food Store at Magnolia Homes Road and Riverside Park Drive.  Investigators believe that the suspect was picked up from that location by an unknown vehicle.

Nguyen was taken to a local area hospital for treatment for injuries to the head and neck.

Nguyen, is a former Orlando Police Officer who was the victim of an armed robbery in November 1999, during which he was seriously injured causing him to retire.  On that occasion, Officer Nguyen had confronted an armed gunman who had just committed an armed robbery. The gunman shot Officer Nguyen during his attempt to make the arrest.  Nguyen was seriously injured and suffered a stroke a year later.

The suspect in the July 1, attempted murder and robbery incident is described as a black male, 5’6” – 5’8”, thin build, 20-30 years of age, short hair, light skinned, and armed with an unknown type handgun.

Meanwhile, it is believed that the same suspect could be responsible for a home invasion on 6753 Magnolia Point Circle earlier today, Friday, July 8th.

Anyone with information on the whereabout of this suspect is asked to call Crimeline at # 1-800-423-TIPS.
