Demings to Recognize Deputy for Saving Toddler’s Life

Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Jerry Demings

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office will recognize agency personnel, community members and civilians for their life saving efforts in a ceremony Tuesday at OCSO Central Complex, 2500 West Colonial Drive.

In particular, the awards ceremony will recognize Deputy Sheriff Samuel Mendez who on March 6, saved the life of a 3-year-old girl.

D/S Mendez had seen the toddler following a dog with no adult supervision, as she wondered toward an abandoned house with a pool filled with contaminated water.  Realizing the girl was in danger, D/S Mendez ran to the area after a homeowner told him about the pool and found the little girl submerged in the contaminated water.  He immediately pulled her to safety.

Other agency personnel and members of the publix will be recognized for their lifesaving efforts and assistance in helping fellow citizens and deputies in thwarting crimes.
