Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings will pay tribute to the many hard working and dedicated 9-1-1 call takers, dispatchers, supervisors, managers and other telecommunications staff during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 10th to April 16th.
“These individuals work hard everyday and are committed to ensuring the safety of our community,” Sheriff Demings said in a statement. “Public Safety Telecommunicators are the first “First Responders.” They handle calls from citizens during the first critical seconds of the worst moments of their lives and are often the unsung heroes of public safety.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center which answered over 1.2 million calls in 2010, is the second busiest Public Safety Answering Point in the state of Florida.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center will recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators on Thursday April 14th.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators week was established in 1981 to raise awareness of the hard work and dedication of 9-1-1 Call Takers, Dispatchers, Supervisors, Managers and other telecommunications staff including the technicians that maintain radio and emergency phone systems.
