Demings: No Credible Threat Against Casey Anthony

At a press availability on Tuesday Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said that he is unaware of any credible threat against Casey Anthony.  Demings was responding to a question regarding the community’s outrage over Anthony’s acquittal on murder charges last week, of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee.

“As of today, we don’t have any credible threats to act on,” Demings said.

Casey Anthony is due to be released from the Orange County Jail on Sunday, July 17.

A 12-member jury from Pinellas County found her guilty on four counts of lying to law enforcement and she was sentenced to four years. Anthony has served three years in jail while awaiting trial for the alleged murder of her daughter.

Demings said that Orange County Corrections Department is responsible for Anthony so long as she is in jail, but once she leaves the grounds, she is a free citizen.

“We don’t pick up any responsibilities unless there is a credible threat,” Demings said. “If we become aware of credible threats, she is entitled to security like any other citizen.”

Demings added that the Sheriff’s Office will assist with Anthony’s departure from jail and that her attorneys have made the necessary arrangements.

It was Deming’s view that the community would act responsibly upon Anthony’s release from jail, based on past experiences.
