A Deltona woman escaped an attempted carjacking while on the phone with a 911 operator at the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, early on Monday morning.

The 44-year-old woman was driving home from Orlando when she observed a vehicle with its high beams on following her.  As the woman stopped at the intersection of Tivoli Drive and Saxon Boulevard, the car’s headlights were turned and the vehicle continued to follow, the woman told investigators.

The woman drove past her home and dialed 911 around 3:14 a.m.   She explained that as she pulled up to the stop light at Providence Boulevard and Fort Smith Boulevard, the man in the car following, attempted to rob her while ordering her out of the vehicle.   She yelled to the 911 operator that she was being robbed and sped away.

Deputies do not have a good description of the suspect’s vehicle, except to say it was a small, low-rider car.   The suspect is about 5′ 2″ tall with a small frame and was wearing a red bandana over his face.  He carried a black handgun.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) -277-TIPS.
