A group of U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan got the shock of their lives when Delta Air Lines slapped them with $2,800 in baggage fees.
The 34 returning U.S. soldiers were each charged $200 for a fourth checked bag, but a couple of the men were media savvy enough to make a video about their ordeal and post it on YouTube.
“We showed up and found out we had too many bags,” said Army Staff Sgt. Robert O’Hair in the video, which was shot on their flight. “We had four bags, and Delta Air Lines only allows three bags. Anything over three bags you have to pay for, even though there’s a contract between the United States government and Delta Air Lines: When returning from Afghanistan on military orders, you’re authorized up to four bags.”

Delta explained that the soldiers were traveling in economy and so, were only allowed to check only three bags each.
According to Huffington Post, the airline changed its policy Wednesday, to allow U.S. soldiers to check four bags if traveling in economy class, just as in first class.
