A Central Florida defendant was convicted in a violent rape outside of a Daytona Beach motel.
After a two-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant David Baker guilty as charged of Robbery with a Weapon and Sexual Battery.
On December 14, 2024, Baker held a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach motel. He then forced the victim into the backseat of a vehicle and sexually battered her before stealing her cell phones and some cash.
The victim gave a detailed description of her assaulter to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. Baker, who matched the description, was quickly found in the area by deputies.
“A rapist and robber tried, convicted and soon to be off the streets for good,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “He was recently released from prison and chose to continue his violent criminal behavior. Another example of your prosecutors working to keep you safe.”
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant State Attorney Boone Forkner successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Christian Miller presided over the case.
Baker qualified and will be sentenced as a Prison Releasee Reoffender and Habitual Felony Offender.
